The University of Alabama football team entered its third week of spring practice today and moved into the second half of its 16 spring workouts including A-Day weekend scheduled for March 19.
Head coach Mike Shula talked about how the team needed to focus on the last few practices and he also addressed Saturday's scrimmage.
"We have to keep refining and going over things with the older guys and the younger guys," said Shula. "We're still looking for guys that are going to come in and compete for playing time. You look at the scrimmage again, there are some other guys that showed up and played really well."
Shula sang the praises of Juwan Garth, Rudy Griffin, Mark Anderson and all the defensive ends and Simeon Castille. Offensively, Shula liked what he saw, after judging film from scrimmage, from Matt Caddell and Tyrone Prothro when he got the ball.
"We were a little sloppy today only because we spent time with some little things that just dragged practice on," said Shula. "We want to do things that are productive everyday on the field; we don't want to waste time. We did that a little too much today and so we did a little extra running."
Alabama will continue its workouts on Thursday and Friday in preparation for another scrimmage on Saturday. Next week's schedule will include workouts on Wednesday and Thursday and the annual A-Day game on Saturday, March 19.
