TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- The first day of spring practice in full pads was a productive outing for the Crimson Tide players and staff on Friday.
"I thought we got some good things done the first day in pads," said Tide coach Mike Shula. "The defense really did some good things. There is a lot happening on that side of the ball.
"The wide receivers have to get used to being hit," Shula noted, adding "the offense was not quite as sharp up front as we were the first couple of days."
Shula announced that senior offensive guard Von Ewing had left the team.
The Tide resumes work at 10 a.m. Saturday with a practice in Bryant-Denny Stadium. "We could do some live tackling toward the end, but otherwise, Saturday will just like any other practice."
Alabama concludes spring practice on March 19 with the annual A-Day game at 2 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
