TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama football team completed its first day of spring practice in shorts Friday and head coach Mike Shula said he was pleased with the enthusiasm that he saw from his team.
"This was a good first day," Shula said. "I thought the tempo and enthusiasm from our guys was real good. We have a lot of positions that are open, nine positions specifically. We have to get used to reacting faster and playing better as a group."
Shula also added that Jeffrey Dukes, Juwan Simpson and Terrence Jones all had impressive days on the defensive side of the ball.
Offensively, John Parker Wilson looked good. However, Shula added that the offense must do a better job of protecting the ball. Alabama had the fewest number of turnovers in the SEC in 2005.
Alabama will continue spring practice Saturday morning and will again go in shorts. The Tide will then take Sunday off and will practice on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. Spring practice will culminate with the annual A-Day game on Saturday, April 1 at 1:30.
