One of the stars on the Tide defense, Kenny moved inside this spring to play the tackle spot after playing end last year. He finished spring practice No. 1 at his position and following post-spring knee surgery, should be ready for an outstanding season. He was picked by Football News as a preseason All-SEC selection

1998 (Sophomore): A starter in nine games, Kenny led the Tide in quarterback pressures with 13. He also had 38 tackles, eight stops behind the line for 28 yards, two quarterback sacks for 12 yards, one pass break-up and two blocked kicks. He had his best game at Alabama in a 16-10 loss to Florida when he had seven tackles, two sacks and two quarterback pressures. In the Tide's 30-20 over Southern Miss, he had three tackles, one stop behind the line, two quarterback pressures and a blocked field goal. In the overtime win over Ole Miss, Smith had five tackles, including three stops behind the line for eight yards.

1997 (Freshman): One of eight true freshmen to see playing time, Kenny played in every game and started four of the final five games of the season. He closed the year with 424 plays and a career-high 69 snaps in the LSU contest. He had 30 tackles, including seven stops behind the line for 21 yards and two quarterback sacks for 12 yards. He also had six quarterback pressures. His best game came against LSU when he had seven tackles and a pair of stops behind the line for four yards.

Prep: The Mississippi Defensive Player of the Year and Parade All-America, Kenny was a four-year starter at Meridian High. As a prep senior, he had 65 solo stops, and 172 total tackles, 10 sacks, two fumble recoveries and two caused fumbles. He returned one fumble 25 yards for a touchdown. As a junior, he turned in 67 solo tackles, six sacks, seven fumble recoveries, caused nine others and had six pass break-ups. He was the first player in Meridian High School history to move up from junior high to play varsity football. He also played basketball and baseball and made the basketball all-state team.

Personal: The son of Betty Jenning and Coon E. Smith, Kenny enjoys fishing, tennis and hunting in his spare time. Born 9-8-77. He is a Management major.
