1998 First-Team All-SEC (Birmingham News)
One of the Tide's leading candidates for post-season honors, Chris has been a starter on the offensive line for 29 consecutive games. He has great quickness and agility ingredients that should combine to make him a high NFL draft choice next spring. He was a pre-season All-America and All-SEC choice by Football News. and was The Sporting News' No. 6 offensive tackle in the preseason.
1998 (Junior): Solidly entrenched at the left tackle spot, Chris has been the Tide's starter at that position for 29 consecutive games. A member of the Tide's "Iron Men" offensive line, Chris played 780 total snaps this season, including 732 of a possible 744 offensive snaps. He has played every offensive snap of every game except the Arkansas contest. He earned preseason All-America billing and was selected to pre-season teams on the College Sports News second-team All-America squad and Bob Griese's College Football third-team All-America squad. He was also a preseason All-SEC pick by Football News. He has emerged as the Tide's most consistent offensive lineman.
1997(Sophomore): Chris started every game and played 745 snaps during the season. He a had career-high 85 snaps against Kentucky and then, in back-to-back games against Ole Miss and Louisiana Tech, had 79 snaps.
1996 (Freshman): A starter in the final seven games of the season, Chris made steady improvement throughout the season. He played a total of 532 snaps, fourth on the team behind other offensive linemen Pete DiMario (809), John Causey (771) and Laron White (641).
Prep: A neck injury sustained late in his senior season limited his playing time, but he still graded 90 percent or better in every game while playing both offense and defense. He played for coach Tommy Davis at Shaw High School. Helped his team to an 8-3-0 record and a spot in the state playoffs.
Personal: The son of Shirley and James Samuels, Chris' brother Lawrence, played football at Livingston University. He enjoys fishing, swimming and playing basketball in his spare time. Born 7-28-77. He is a Human Performance major.
