Griff and Jason McDonald battled during the spring for the No. 1 spot at left
guard and Griff emerged as the starter going into fall drills.
1998 (Sophomore): A starter in every game, Griff was a member of the
Tide's "Iron Men" offensive line. He played 785 total snaps during the season
(only Will Cuthbert matched that number). He played 738 of a possible 744
offensive snaps. Griff finished spring No. 1 at right guard, but was moved to
left guard in early fall practice. Made significant progress after playing defense
early in his redshirt season. He earned the "Paul Crane Most Improved
Offensive Lineman" award following spring practice.
1997 (Freshman): When Redmill, Paul Hogan and Will Cuthbert started
against Arkansas on Sept. 20, it marked the first time in modern Alabama
history that three freshmen offensive linemen started a game. It turned out to
be his only start of the season, but Griff saw action in 11 games. He had a
career-high 35 plays in the start against Arkansas.
Prep: A standout defensive lineman for Walker High School in Jasper, Griff
earned first-team All-State, All-Metro and All-County honors. He was the
No. 16 player on the Tuscaloosa News' Sweet 16 list after getting 45 solo
tackles, 48 assists, three sacks and four pass break-ups. He was also and
Academic All-State choice.
Personal: The son of Bonnie and John Redmill, Griff lists basketball and
weight lifting as his hobbies. Born 11-10-77. He is Public Relations major.
