When starting linebacker Travis Carroll was sidelined during spring with
shoulder surgery, Marvin got the opportunity to get extensive work at the
middle linebacker position. He showed the coaches enough potential and
improvement to be listed in the rotation heading into fall practice.
Prep: Marvin began his senior season at fullback, but moved to linebacker
midway through the season. As one of the South's top-rated fullbacks, he
rushed 88 times for 522 yards. As a linebacker, he had 33 solo tackles and
29 assists in just four games. He missed most of his junior season following
arm surgery. As a fullback his junior year, he scored five TDs. Marvin was
often called the "South's most physical player". He was the state's No. 4 prep
prospect according to The Tuscaloosa News. Marvin was named to The
Atlanta Journal's Super Southern 100 squad and was a Prep Star
All-America pick following his junior year. Marvin was also listed by Jeff
Whitaker as a Southeastern Top 50 player and one of the Top 100
prospects in America by the National Recruiting Advisor. He was the No.
2 prospect on the Birmingham Post-Herald's 10 Most Wanted list. Marvin
also threw the shot put (58-10) and discus (146-0) in track. He was coached
