GOLDEN FLAKE A-DAY GAME
The University of Alabama football team and head coach Nick Saban wraps up spring practice with the 2008 Golden Flake A-Day Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The kickoff for the annual game is set for 2:05 p.m. (CDT). The game is being carried by the Crimson Tide Sports Network with Eli Gold (play-by-play), Kenny Stabler (analyst) and Barry Krauss (sidelines). The game is also being aired live by Comcast Sports Southeast with Chris Stewart (play-by-play), Tyler Watts (analyst) and Allison Williams (sidelines). Alabama opened spring practice on Thursday, March 13, and held 13 practices through Thursday, April 10, leading up to today's A-Day game. The Crimson Tide also held two scrimmages here in Bryant-Denny Stadium this spring (March 29 and April 5) in preparation for today's game. Alabama concludes spring football practice with a final workout on Monday, April 14, at 3:30 p.m. at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
HEAD COACH NICK SABAN
Nick Saban is concluding his second spring practice as the University of Alabama's 27th head football coach. He has compiled a 113-65-1 (.634) record in 14 seasons as a collegiate head coach at Toledo (1990), Michigan State (1995-99), LSU (2000-04) and Alabama (2007-present). Saban led the Crimson Tide to a 7-6 record in 2007, including a victory over Colorado in the PetroSun Independence Bowl. In five seasons at LSU, Saban posted a 48-16 (.750) record and led the Tigers to the 2003 BCS National Championship. He also led the Tigers to two SEC Championships, three SEC Western Division titles and five bowl appearances, including three bowl wins. He was the 2003 National Coach of the Year and earned both the Paul "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. Saban spent two seasons with the Miami Dolphins before coming to Tuscaloosa.
WALK OF FAME CEREMONY
The annual Walk of Fame ceremony will take place Saturday, April 12 at 12:15 p.m. at Denny Chimes. The 2007 permanent team captains, center Antoine Caldwell, safety Rashad Johnson and linebacker Darren Mustin, will have their hand prints and foot prints placed in cement at the base of Denny Chimes.
A-DAY TO SERVE AS FUNDRAISER FOR UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
UA Athletics and Terry Saban will help raise funds in order benefit academics for all UA students by taking donations for the University Libraries at the A-Day Game. Terry Saban, UA students, faculty, staff, and student-athletes, including members of the UA men's basketball team, will be collecting donations for the University Libraries at each gate at Bryant-Denny Stadium and in the Walk of Champions area prior to the A-Day Game and inside the stadium throughout the first half. Volunteers collecting donations will be wearing green shirts with the message "Athletics & Academics Support UA Libraries" printed on them. On A-Day, donations can also be made at the Bruno, McLure, Rodgers and Gorgas Libraries. Donations will be accepted in cash and check form. Donors who wish to give via credit card can go online to participate at www.lib.ua.edu, and then must click on the "Make a Gift" link.
