Chuck Davis led four Alabama players in double figures with a career high 25 points as the No. 18 ranked (AP) University of Alabama men’s basketball team got on top of the North Texas Mean Green early to cruise to an 85-71 victory Sunday at Coleman Coliseum.  The junior from Selma connected on eight of 10 shots from the floor and nine-of-11 free throw attempts in leading the way for Alabama.

“Chuck Davis today was probably the difference in the game,” Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried said.  “He didn’t miss many shots and just did a real good job inside.”

In addition to Davis big day, Earnest Shelton scored 17 points, true freshman Ronald Steele was perfect from the floor and scored 14 points and Kennedy Winston added 13 points.

Alabama was able to take advantage of hot shooting in the first half to jump out to a 44-28 halftime lead.  The Tide shot 72.7 percent from the field in the first half including going five for five from three point range.  North Texas on the other hand only managed to shoot 34.5 percent from the field.  The Tide capitalized on North Texas cold shooting to go on a 23 to five run and stake itself to a 22-point lead with 6:07 remaining in the first half.

North Texas rallied in the second half of the game cutting Alabama’s lead to 52-43 with 13:25 left to play in the game.  However that would be as close as the Mean Green would get as the Tide pulled away, extending its lead back to as much as 19 before settling for the 14 point win.

For the game Alabama hit 55.1 percent of its shots compared to just 45.8 for UNT.  The Tide also took advantage of the free throw line, hitting 24 of 34 from the charity stripe while North Texas was six for nine.

Alabama hits the road over the Thanksgiving Holidays as they will travel to Anchorage, Ak. for the Great Alaska Shootout.  The Tide will play Alaska-Anchorage Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m. C.S.T.  The game will be televised on ESPN2 and can be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
