TUSCALOOSA – It’s opening day for the No. 15 ranked Crimson Tide basketball team as it unveils both the newly renovated Coleman Coliseum and its 2005-06 team tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. CT when Alabama plays host to Miami of Ohio in the first round of the Preseason NIT.
“I think everybody is excited,” said Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried who has led the Tide to four straight NCAA tournament appearances. “It’s time for a new season, and we’ve got a lot of challenges. I think everybody is ready to try to tackle those challenges. We’ve got a tough test Tuesday. Miami of Ohio is an excellent team. They won the Mid-America Conference last year and they’re very, very well-coached, so we know we’ll have our hands full.”
The game will be streamed live on www.CrimsonTradition.com.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the door at the Coleman Coliseum Athletic Box Office. Fans at tonight’s game will be the first to see the $28 million transformation of Coleman Coliseum which includes larger lobby areas, an expanded menu selection at the concessions areas, more restroom facilities, brand new seats with cup holders in the area and a beautiful new fašade for the building.
The winner of tonight’s game advances to the second round. That game will be played on Thursday night, probably at 9 p.m. CT, though the time and site have not yet been announced. Should Alabama win, it could possibly host that game. The winner of tonight’s game plays the winner between tonight’s Memphis vs. Milwaukee game.
