TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior guard Trevor Releford has been selected to the Preseason First Team All-Southeastern Conference, league officials announced on Friday.

It marks the second straight season Releford earned a nod to the league’s preseason team, collecting preseason second team honors prior to the 2011-12 season.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., Releford averaged 12.0 points and 2.0 steals a game a year ago on his way to second-team all-conference accolades. His 64 steals last season ranked fifth in the school record books, and he enters the 2012-13 campaign with 124 career steals, which ranks tied for 9th in UA lore.

Ten different schools are represented on the two teams. In all, 36 different players received votes for the coaches’ teams.

The coaches’ preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC Head Men’s Basketball Coaches. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.

Releford and his Alabama teammates will open the program’s 100th season on Friday when it hosts South Dakota State in the Tuscaloosa Regional of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. The contest, which is set to tip at 8 p.m. CT, will be televised on ESPNU.

The match-up will be the first of two games the Tide will play as regional hosts of the event. On Sunday, Alabama welcomes in-state foe West Alabama for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
