TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama senior guards Alonzo Gee and Ronald Steele have been selected to the Second Team of the 2008-09 Preseason Southeastern Conference All-Conference team as voted by the league's coaches, the SEC Office announced.
Gee, from Riviera Beach, Fla., started all 33 of the Crimson Tide's games last season. He was third on the team with 14.5 points per game and second on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. He led the Tide in scoring in 10 games last season. In his career, Gee has 1,150 points, 499 rebounds, 127 assists, 120 steals and 35 blocked shots.
Steele, from Birmingham, Ala., was a Preseason All-American in 2007-08 before an injury forced him to sit out the 2007-08 season. Alabama's all-time leader in free-throw accuracy (.868), Steele has started 88 of 89 games he has been in a Crimson Tide uniform. For his career, Steele has 920 points, 331 rebounds, 397 assists, 98 steals and 14 blocked shots. He currently ranks among UA's career leaders in free-throw percentage (1st, .868), three-point field goal percentage (3rd, .421), assists (8th, 397), assists per game (5th, 4.46), and minutes played (5th, 1,191).
Alabama will play its first exhibition game on Thursday, November 6, against Faulkner University at 7 p.m.
