Mark Gottfried will divide his 2005-06 University of Alabama basketball team into two teams and see how they perform for the first time this season in front of a crowd when Alabama hosts the Crimson and White Scrimmage on Thursday night. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be held in the back gym of Coleman Coliseum.

The event is free to the public and will include an autograph session following the conclusion of the scrimmage.

“I think it’s going to be important for us to play an inter-squad game in front of an audience,” said Gottfried who has advanced his last four Alabama teams to the NCAA tournament and enters this season with the Tide ranked No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. “I want to see the young players and how they respond. Plus it gives us an opportunity to look at some different combinations of guys. And more importantly, I hope our fans come out. This is the only opportunity for our local fans to watch us before we open up in the Preseason NIT (in Tuscaloosa against Miami-Ohio at 7 p.m. CT on November 15). So we’re anticipating a good night and a lot of fun and our players are looking forward to it as well.”

Seating in the back gym is limited, so fans are encouraged to arrive early. The doors will open around 5:45 p.m. The game will start at 6:30 p.m.

Gottfried has not yet announced how the rosters will be divided.
