TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama senior guard Trevor Releford was named to the watch list of candidates for the 2014 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, which was released on Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
It marks the second consecutive season Releford has been selected to The Cousy Award's watch list, named after basketball hall of famer and legendary former Boston Celtics star Bob Cousy, which recognizes the top point guard in men's college basketball annually.
"The Bob Cousy Award promotes the values of leadership, determination and teamwork - all skills needed on the basketball court and in life," said Ken Kaufman, Chair of the Bob Cousy Award and former president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). "Mr. Cousy exemplified all of these traits, and continues to be an inspiration to basketball players on and off the court."
Releford, a Preseason First Team All-Southeastern Conference honoree, comes into his senior year as the SEC's active leader in points (1,299), assists (298) and steals (194) and is the only current player in the league to have scored 1,000 points in his career.
As a junior, Releford led the Crimson Tide with 14.9 points and 2.1 steals per game, while also connecting on a team-best 40.7-percent from beyond the arc. The Kansas City, Mo., native finished with 70 steals a year ago, which ranks third best in program history, on his way to becoming the program's all-time steals leader.
