Alabama's basketball players make an impact in NCAA Basketball, the NBA and overseas. Among the Crimson Tide players currently making headlines overseas is Kenny Walker, the starting center on Alabama's 2002 Southeastern Conference Championship team.
Kenny received his University of Alabama degree in May 2003, just two months after he and his Alabama teammates played in the NCAA tournament. Degree in hand, Kenny was able to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball and is currently a star in the Czech league. He's playing in the Mattoni National Basketball League. On Wednesday in his third game of the season, he scored 21 points on 8 for 13 shooting from the field. He made 5 of 6 free throws. Defensively the Geofin Novy Jicin player had 14 rebounds and blocked three shots, stats that helped his team win 83-78 against USK Praha.
In his first two games he made 8 of 12 shots and all nine of his free throw attempts to score 25 points. He coupled that with nine rebounds against Nymburk, a team Geofin Novy Jicin faced in the 2007-08 Mattoni NBL Finals. In his season opener on October 8 Kenny scored 17 points, making another 8 of 12, had 11 rebounds and two blocked shots in a 92-84 win against Opava.
Kenny starts his Central European Basketball League play next week in Austria.
