Trevor Releford Named Preseason All-SEC First Team

Oct. 16, 2013

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama senior guard Trevor Releford has been selected to the Preseason All-Southeastern Conference First Team, league officials announced on Wednesday.

It marks the second consecutive season Releford was tabbed as a SEC Preseason First-Team performer and the third straight year he has been named to the league's preseason team (earned second team preseason honors in 2011-12).

Releford comes into his senior year as the SEC's active leader in points (1,299), assists (298) and steals (194) and is the only current player in the league to have scored 1,000 points in his career.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., Releford is coming off a 2012-13 season in which he was a unanimous first team all-conference honoree, as well as being tabbed to the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-American Team and USBWA All-District First Team.

As a junior, Releford led the Crimson Tide with 14.9 points and 2.1 steals per game, while also connecting on a team-best 40.7-percent from beyond the arc. He finished with 70 steals a year ago, which ranks third best in program history, on his way to becoming the program's all-time steals leader.

Releford was joined on the first team by Kentucky freshman and SEC Preseason Player-of-the-Year Julius Randle, Tennessee's Jordan McRae, LSU's Johnny O'Bryant III and Ole Miss' Marshall Henderson.

Alabama was predicted to finish sixth in a vote by a select panel of both SEC and national media members, while Kentucky was picked to win the 14-team league.

Each SEC school selected media members that cover their team and additional media from across the nation were selected by the conference office to form the voting panel.

The 2013-14 SEC Media Preseason Poll tips off SEC Basketball Media Day, October 16-17 at The Westin Birmingham.

Alabama will open the 2013-14 campaign with an exhibition contest against West Georgia on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The Tide will open its 101st season of basketball when it competes at the Tip-Off Classic against the Oklahoma Sooners in Dallas, Texas.
