Ray George, a 6-foot-3 All-American guard from Georgia Perimeter Community College, has failed to meet academic requirements to attend the University of Alabama this fall.
George, a native of Decatur, Ga., signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play basketball at the University of Alabama last November.
“Obviously, we are very disappointed,” said Alabama basketball coach Mark Gottfried of George who averaged 20 points and 9.4 assists per game this past season and was an all-conference JUCO player. “When we signed Ray we planned on him potentially starting in our lineup. This is devastating for our team as it gives us only ten scholarship players and a thin backcourt. We’ll have to play a small forward at the guard position this year. We’ll have to adjust.”
Fall semester classes start at the University of Alabama on Wednesday.
