ANTWERP, Belgium - The Alabama men's basketball team used a 13-4 run late in the fourth quarter to slip past Gembo, 86-79, on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 2-0 on its European Tour, which includes an 85-68 win over Meppel (Netherlands) on Saturday night.
The decisive run was sparked by three three-pointers that turned a 73-73 contest into an 86-77 game with 1:31 remaining. Senior guard Trevor Releford scored eight of his game-high 24 points during the spurt, including a pair of threes. Releford also added a team-high six assists and a pair of steals.
Sophomore guard Retin Obasohan, a native of Antwerp, Belgium, finished with six points, three assists and three steals. He played in front of approximately 100 of his friends and family.
Junior forward Nick Jacobs added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, including scoring 12 points in the second half. Junior guard Rodney Cooper collected 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Shannon Hale added six points and eight boards in the victory.
The Tide will have a quick turnaround as it plays the Antwerp Giants II on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. local time (noon CDT).
