TUSCALOOSA – It’s been a season to celebrate for the University of Alabama men’s basketball team and Crimson Tide fans can join Mark Gottfried and his players in feting the year’s successes at the team’s end of the year awards reception.
The event, co-sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Tip-Off Club and the TIDE PRIDE office, will be held Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m. CT in the Sellers Auditorium of the Bryant Conference Center. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $15 each and are available through the TIDE PRIDE office by calling 205-348-6323 by Thursday, April 4.
The 2002 season was Alabama basketball’s biggest year in a decade as the Tide finished the season ranked No. 8 in the nation, won the Southeastern Conference regular season championship and advanced to the SEC tournament’s championship game, was the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament’s South Region, had 27 wins (the second most in school history), produced the SEC Coach of the Year in Mark Gottfried, the SEC Player of the Year in Erwin Dudley, the SEC Freshman of the Year in Mo Williams, an All-American in Erwin Dudley and All-SEC players in Erwin Dudley, Rod Grizzard and Mo Williams as well as three Academic All-SEC players.
