TUSCALOOSA – Among the estimated 2,420 students who will graduate from the University of Alabama this weekend are two men who were seniors this past season on the Crimson Tide basketball team, Lucky Williams and Jason Reese.
Both will graduate in the 6 p.m. CT ceremony at Bryant-Denny Stadium, a departure from the traditional graduation venue of the players’ home away from home, Coleman Coliseum. The coliseum is currently undergoing renovation, forcing graduation to be held at Bryant-Denny for the first time since 1985.
Williams, who is from Delta, Nigeria, will receive his degree Saturday in management, which is in the School of Business. Reese, a Birmingham native, will receive his degree in public relations in the School of Communications.
Their diplomas will mean all three of Alabama’s three-man senior class has graduated. The other senior in 2005, Earnest Shelton, graduated in December, earning his degree in management.
Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried’s number of graduates at Alabama will rise to 17 of 17 seniors since 2000 when the pair graduate on Saturday. His players who have already graduated in that five-year-span include Jeremy Hays (2000), Alfred Moss (2000), Tarik London (2001), “Doc” Martin (2001), Jim Bakken (2001), Solomon Davis (2002), Travis Stinnett (2002), Terrance Meade (2003), Kenny Walker (2003), Erwin Dudley (2003), Demetrius Smith (2004), Reggie Rambo (2004), Emmett Thomas (2004), Antoine Pettway (2004) and Shelton.
