Former Tide Player Marcus Campbell Will Host Head Start Benefit Games

Former University of Alabama basketball player Marcus Campbell, who made a successful professional playing career for over a decade in Europe as an all-star player, is hosting the 2nd Annual Marcus Campbell Basketball Gala in his hometown of Livingston at noon on Saturday, April 9. It will take place at his former high school, at Livingston High School’s Nelson Hughes Gymnasium.

The basketball event will open with Paramount Middle School Girls playing Kinterbish Junior High Girls, followed by the Paramount Middle School Boys vs. the Kinterbish Junior High Boys. Next Carver Middle School Boys will play York West End Boys. Demopolis Junior High Girls will then take on Livingston Junior High Girls, followed by John Essex Junior High School Girls vs. York West End High School Girls. Livingston Junior High School Boys will play John Essex Junior High School Boys and the event will cap with Demopolis Junior High School Boys playing North Sumter Junior High School Boys.

Cost is $2 for students and $5 for adults. Children aged five and under attend free. The event benefits the Sumter County Opportunity, Inc. Head Start program. For more information, call (205) 652-4477.

Campbell lettered at Alabama from 1989-91, playing forward for the Crimson Tide on teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament, including the NCAA Sweet 16 in 1990 and 1991. The Alabama graduate followed his UA career by playing ball overseas for a decade, retiring after knee surgery.
