TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama senior guard Trevor Releford has been selected to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District IV team, based on voting from its national membership of 900-plus.
The district is chosen from the rosters of the NCAA D-I teams from Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
It marks the second consecutive season Releford has earned all-district honors from the organization. He becomes the first Alabama player to earn back-to-back USBWA All-District accolades since Richard Hendrix achieved the feat in 2007 and 2008.
Releford, who was named to the Southeastern Conference First Team earlier in the day, leads Alabama with 18.8 points per game, which ranks fifth in the SEC. He also leads the SEC and ranks 21st nationally with 2.2 steals per game, ranks fifth in the SEC in field goal percentage, shooting 50.5 percent (185-of-366), and is fourth in the league in three-point percentage, shooting a team-best 39.7 percent (71-of-179).
The Kansas City, Mo., native comes into the SEC Tournament with 563 points on the season, which ranks 17th in program history. Moreover, he currently ranks fifth in the school record books with 1,862 career points and needs only eight points to pass former great Buck Johnson (1983-86) into fourth on the all-time scoring list.
Releford is joined on the 10-member squad by Chris Denson (Auburn), Montrezl Harris (Louisville), Marshall Henderson (Ole Miss), Jordan McRae (Tennessee), Casey Prather (Florida), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Russ Smith (Louisville), Jarnell Stokes (Tennessee) and Scottie Wilbekin (Florida). Smith was tabbed the District IV Player of the Year, while Florida's Billy Donovan was named the Coach of the Year.
Releford will lead the Crimson Tide into the 2014 SEC Tournament this weekend. Alabama earned the No. 10 seed and will play No. 7 seed LSU on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) on SEC TV.
