TUSCALOOSA The United States Basketball Writers Association has voted two University of Alabama players to its 2006 USBA All-District team.
Both sophomore point guard Ronald Steele of Birmingham and junior center Jermareo Davidson of Atlanta were named to the All-District IV team. That district encompasses players from the states of Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama.
Joining the Alabama duo on the USBWA All-District team was its Player of the Year, Chris Lofton of Tennessee, Rodney Carney of Memphis, Florida’s Joakim Noah and Taurean Green, Tennessee’s C.J. Watson, Rajon Rondo of Kentucky, Taquan Dean of Louisville, Shan Foster of Vanderbilt, and Guillermo Diaz of Miami. Tennessee’s Bruce Pear was voted Coach of the Year in the district.
Steele, who has started in every game at Alabama since he arrived on campus as a freshman last season, averages 13.8 points a game. He scored 20 or more points in six games this season, all against Southeastern Conference teams, including a career high 29 points in a road game at Arkansas. Davidson started in 28 of 33 games his freshman season and in all 32 games last season and 28 and counting this season. Going into this weekend’s SEC tournament in Nashville, Davidson is averaging 14.1 points and 9.0 rebounds.
