TUSCALOOSA – For the third time this season, the University of Alabama’s Richard Hendrix has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
The 6-foot-8, 265 pound forward from Athens got the nod after his performance on Sunday against Top 10 ranked Florida. Hendrix collected his seventh career double double—his fifth in league play---when he scored 11 points and had a career best 17 rebounds against the Gators in Alabama’s 82-77 win.
Hendrix is averaging 10.9 points and 9.4 rebounds in his 14 SEC games this season. He ranks second in the SEC in rebounding in league games and fourth overall in all games. A starter in 17 of Alabama’s 26 games, Hendrix is averaging 9.7 points and 8.0 rebounds overall. The SEC Freshman of the Year candidate just completed an eight day span where in three games, two of those against the Top 10 (Tennessee and Florida), he scored 29 points and had 33 rebounds.
