|Antoine Pettway with his bobblehead doll|
TUSCALOOSA – He’s been a fan favorite since he came in as a freshman walkon in 2001 and quickly earned a scholarship. Now some lucky fans can take a pint-sized version of the University of Alabama’s animated senior guard, Antoine Pettway, home with them. Alabama is giving away a limited number of Pettway bobblehead dolls to those who come through the door first at its February 18 Vanderbilt game. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
Pettway earned a national following in 2002, the year Alabama won the Southeastern Conference Championship, because of his full-out play and the seemingly magical red shoes he wore on the court. The Pettway bobblehead comes complete with him wearing those shoes (which had to be retired from too much wear last season on the real Pettway).
Tide fans can read about Antoine Pettway in the February game program as well as a feature on sophomore Evan Brock who is the son of former Harlem Globetrotter Ernie Brock, an update on former Tide star Doc Martin who is now the director of operations for the NBA feeder league, the NBDL, and a feature in which Alabama’s 15 players discuss who their most influential role model has been. The programs go on sale Saturday at the Tennessee game and may also be purchased at the Vanderbilt, Ole Miss (February 28th) and Mississippi State (March 6) games.
Tickets to Alabama’s home games are on sale now and can be purchased on the Tide’s official website, www.rolltide.com , at the Athletic Ticket Box Office in Coleman Coliseum, or by calling 1-877-TIDETIX.
