Box Score |
HEAD COACH Anthony Grant
"I was really pleased with how we came out in the second half defensively and really set the tone. When you look at the numbers, they shot 25 percent in the second half, one for seven from the three-point line and we only turned the ball over twice in the second half, giving ourselves an opportunity every time on the offensive end. Being disruptive on the defensive end like we were allowed us to build the lead."
On the second half defense clamping down:
"It was good to see. I thought Jacksonville played extremely hard. They're obviously a well-coached team. They can out aggressive and shot the ball extremely well in the first half - 50 percent from the three-point line and 45 percent from the field in the first half. We were able to build a bit of a lead toward the end of the first half but then they cut it to five at the end of the half and had the momentum, so I thought it was important for our guys to come out in the second half and establish the momentum back in our favor."
On Jacksonville playing well to start the game:
"I think that's a tribute to Cliff (Warren) and his staff. Obviously you don't want to be in a position where you lose seven in a row but to play with that type of intensity and focus despite that I think is a mark of a well-coached team."
No. 12, Trevor Releford, Guard.
On difference between the two halves:
"Our coaches told us at halftime to play with more energy and to not let them outplay us. I think that we took it to heart. We came out different in the second half."
On a different game plan that is allowing them to score more points:
"We are just listening to Coach (Anthony Grant). He is telling us to use our talent. It got us here, and not to do anything that we are not supposed to do. What we have been doing seems to be working."
No. 05, Tony Mitchell, Forward.
On the first half:
"Our defense picked up in the second half. We took a lot of stuff for granted in the first half. We need to maintain our defense because that is what will win games for us."
On his scoring field:
"I am just glad that my teammates found me when they found me, so that I was able to hit shots when needed. "
HEAD COACH CLIFF WARREN
"I thought we played hard and smart in the first half. In the second half we didn't take care of the basketball. I give Anthony Grant and his basketball team a lot of credit. They turned us over in the second half and took advantage of our mistakes."
On Delwan Graham:
"We need more of those kinds of efforts from Delwan (Graham). He had 13 points and 11 rebounds. I thought he did a pretty good job on Tony Mitchell or whoever he was guarding."
On what happened with Graham at the beginning of the second half:
"He's been having some shoulder issues and he just got banged, kind of a quick twinge."
On how difficult it is to play against Alabama when they are knocking three pointers down:
"It's in the scouting report. They haven't been shooting them well. They are shooting 26 percent so we thought in the first half that we have to make sure we can test their three point shooters. I thought Tony Mitchell did a great job in the first half making three three's. They were all uncontested and wide open. You have to give him credit. He made the shots."
On whether their slow start in the second half had to do with Alabama doing something different:
"They came out and played zone but I still thought we had some makeable shots. Glenn Powell had a makeable post-up, Russell Powell had a makeable pull-up, Keith McDougald, our better shooter, had a wide open three we missed. Them going zone, again, that was definitely their strategy in the second half."
On being surprised they didn't make a shot until midway through the second half:
"I thought we had open shots, open looks and makeable shots for us. We just have to get back and keep working."
No. 21, Delwan Graham, Forward
On game performance:
"The game was a pretty good game. The first half was going our way and it was a close game. We went into halftime down by five. We have to work on defending and finishing plays. They played a good offensive and defensive scheme. We had a lot of turnovers. Other than that it was a pretty good game."
