HEAD COACH Anthony Grant
Opening statement:

“We’re excited with the win. I think it was a great effort by our guys and I’m really proud of the effort we gave tonight on both teams. It was a really good win.”

On having to compete without All-SEC forward JaMychal Green:

“We’re really proud of our guys. Obviously, those are some big shoes to fill. Playing against a team the caliber of Oklahoma State, I thought our guys came out and had force. We were aggressive offensively. We came out and set the tone defensively and I’m just proud of the effort that our guys gave tonight. Obviously, missing JaMychal, we’ve talked about it many times. Not something we like to do – play without him, but I’m really proud of the way our guys responded.”

On the impact of making shots early in the game::

“I think it was great, because our guys have worked so hard every day in practice. We spent a lot of time this week on execution offensively. We spent a lot of time just to understand the repetition of taking good shots and making shots. So it’s good to see our guys’ hard work pay off. But I think the thing that will get lost in the whole thing is, you look at the numbers they shot in the first half – from a defensive standpoint, when hold them to 29 percent in the first half, and 16 percent in the paint, I think it speaks volumes to the defensive effort that our guys gave tonight.”

#3, Trevor Lacey, Guard

On his first career start:

“It felt great. Coming into practice, I noticed that I was in the starting lineup. I was prepared for it. JaMychal Green came out and talked to me, and just told me not to overdo it. He said let the game come to you and be aggressive.”

On how he felt playing at the BJCC again:

“It felt great. I think I’m undefeated in this building. It feels good to keep that streak going as far as the individual thing. But it’s not all about the individual, and it really was a great team win. I just brought my effort, and what I bring to the team.”

#5, Tony Mitchell, Forward

On the starting lineup with three freshmen:

“We knew coming into practice what we needed to do to get this win and that was to play good defense. That’s what we did. We came out and we hit first. We had a little defensive lapse that we need to patch up and work on when we get back to practice, but overall we did a pretty good job.”

Opening Statement:
“I give Alabama all the credit in the world. They came out and played extremely well. They played like I haven’t seen them play as far as shooting the ball from the three point line.

“They made the plays. When I found out Green wasn’t playing, I knew it would go one of two ways.

“Teams either really play way over their head or they struggle. I told our team I kind of wish they’d play because we felt like we knew what they were going to do at that point, but guys really stepped it up for them when they their best player wasn’t out there.

“Other guys stepped up and played some of their best games and knocked their shots down. I give them credit. They played good defense on us. They just played at a little bit higher level than we played so give them all the credit.”
