ALABAMA HEAD COACH Anthony Grant
Opening Statement: "I thought this was a very good game played by our guys today. I thought we came out and played with a level of maturity. I thought, throughout the 40-minute game, we were pretty consistent with the things we needed to do both offensively and defensively. I'm really pleased with the effort. Our guys have a busy week ahead of them with finals so I'm proud of them being able to focus today and get the job done."
On the pressure defense and the team's ability to force turnovers:
"I thought that was the difference in the game. I thought our energy in the press tonight was very good. We were able to speed them up a little bit and we were fortunate to get some turnovers and some easy baskets. Obviously, for our style of play, if we can create some easy baskets that's something that helps our cause in terms of the way we want the game played. I thought from the very beginning we set the tempo for the game, and I thought that was critical to us being able to have the success we did today."
On how his team is progressing and where he thinks they are at this point in the season:
"Well what we try to do is take it one day at a time, one game at a time. I think when you look at what we've asked our guys to do, going forward what we try to learn from every game, as a coach I'm pleased with the progress we've made game to game. When you look back on it, the things we're stressing, I thought today we did a very good job of sharing the basketball. I thought we did a very good job from a defensive standpoint of taking away the strengths of their team as we identified them to our players. I thought they were alert and aware, and I thought we played with good energy today. If you can play unselfishly, play hard, play with energy and play with purpose you're going to have a chance to be successful. What that means for our next game, I really don't know. We've just got to continue to try to get better and to continue to try to control the things we can control."
On the what he saw as the strengths of Louisiana-Monroe's team heading into the game:
"I think they've played some very good competition so far this year. I think they've played well. They're a team that defensively mixes it up quite a bit, from the press to the man to the zone, and sometimes with a young team early in the year that can cause problems. I thought our guys did a good job of staying aggressive and attacking whatever defense they gave us. I thought we did a very good job of taking away their strengths individually. We were focused on personnel in terms of what they did well and tried to limit that."
Charvez Davis - Junior Guard
On his role on the team-
"I just try to bring some energy off the bench. My teammates do a good job of finding me, when I'm open and they encourage me to shoot."
On the energy in the game-
"I thought we did a good job of focusing on this game and tonight. We needed to get better and I think that we came out and did that. There weren't really any major distractions.
Tony Mitchell - Freshman Forward
On the focus during the game-
"We came out and made plays and didn't let off. We created some turnovers and I was able to get free a little bit."
LOUISIANA-MONROE HEAD COACH ORLANDO EARLY
"Well the bottom line is that Alabama is just a better team. They just kicked us in every aspect of the game and they were the better team tonight. The press really, really bothered us. We've turned the ball over this year, and did a better job last game, but they forced us into 23 turnovers today and we just can't do that against the press. Hats off to Anthony Grant and his team though, they did a great job pressing us."
On the turnovers being the difference in the game:
"Well no question. Again, hats off to them with their press attack. They did a good job in it. We didn't do a good job handling their superior athletes and size and strength. They just really dominated us."
On the positives from the game:
"We lost, and anytime you lose, there's nothing positive. I guess there's a few things you can look at that are good, but the bottom line is that we lost the game. We just weren't good enough today against a pretty good Alabama, SEC team. Coach Anthony Grant has his team playing really well."
