ALABAMA HEAD COACH Anthony Grant
On this year’s team being dramatically changed since a year ago:
“It is. It just felt good to get back on the court. This is the first game of regular season so I wanted our guys to come out there with some intensity.”

On the adjustments to understanding the coaching staff’s expectations:
“I think so yes. They understand the system. I saw it in the first half we came out with really good intensity and were really effective. When we got a run I thought we stopped being as aggressive as we used to be. In the second half we kind of figured it out and got our legs underneath us.”

On the performance of veterans JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell:
“Yeah I thought JaMychal did a good job of showing patience in the second half. He did a good job on the glass which allowed us to get out in transition. It’s game one, a learning experience. We need to understand what the expectations are and what we need to do to keep getting better as we move forward. ”

On Charvez Davis’ return:
“You’ve got to give our medical staff credit for the strides he was able to make. It’s good to have him back out here, obviously. He’s getting his legs back and getting back in rhythm. I’m sure he’s excited as well.”

No. 21 Senario Hillman, Guard
On how it felt to win the first game of the season:
“I think we did a great job today on defense, and it felt good to get our first win opening the season.”

On his defense in the second half:
“I just tried to go out there and play defense to the best of my ability, that’s what I love to do.”

On pace of the game:
“If we play like that the whole year then we are going to be a great team, that’s our identity, we are just going to try to continue to get better.”

No. 12 Trevor Releford, Guard
On first start as a freshman:
“I had a lot of jitters at the start, but as the game went on it became more normal like the exhibition games.”

On the difference between the two halves:
“I think everybody was uptight at first but once we got loose coach talked to us at halftime and told us we needed to pick it up and so everybody took that in and we started playing together.”

No. 1 JaMychal Green, Forward
On how it felt to come out the first game of the season with a big win:
“It felt good to get a win since it’s the first win since I’ve been here, I think we did good tonight we just played together and played good defense.”

On if the defense in the second half was a preview of how the style of play will be:
“We are going to make things happen and make things more exciting for the crowd.”

On the upcoming game vs. Troy:
“We have to come up with more energy in the first half and play like we did in the second half, if we do that we will make it easier for ourselves.”

FAMU HEAD COACH EUGENE HARRIS
On his overall thoughts on the game:
“Alabama was more physical than us. We did not come in here and do a good job on the boards. They beat us on the boards and we did not play transition defense. I think we started out the ballgame very lackadaisical, not running down the court in transition defense. We didn’t do a good job of being patient and taking good shots. We didn’t do that.

The key to Alabama’s basketball game was their inside play and they out rebounded us and got more second shots than we did. We just didn’t have a good game. Maybe my game plan was wrong, but what we have to do now is go back to the drawing board. This a good test for us out of our league. Our basketball team will learn something from this game. We have some film to show them what they have to do and we are going to do that.”

On the Crimson Tide team:
“Alabama has a good basketball team. They are an SEC caliber team.”
