Alabama Head Coach Anthony Grant
"You have to start off by saying it was an unbelievable effort and unbelievable job by the Alabama-Huntsville kids. Those guys came in and right from the very beginning set the tone of the game. We talked about before the game that we needed to try to get the game up-tempo. I thought they came out and attacked us early. They got some three's against our press and were extremely aggressive. When you play a team like this, you worry about your guys getting frustrated with the style of play. In the first half, we got exposed in some areas. For us, it was a great learning experience. It was a great game as we prepare for the start of the season."
On the Alabama-Huntsville program:
"I knew this would be a very good game for us. When you look at the success they have had, I think there is a great deal of respect throughout the state that everyone has for the program they have. What we tried to do is give our guys a sense of the type of offense they would see. We understood today that it would be important to defend the three-point line. I say that, but we gave them some good looks because of our inability to press effectively. We did a better job in the second half from a sense of urgency standpoint. I am extremely impressed with (junior guard Josh) Magette. For him to go out and play 50 minutes, run his team like he did, and make some shots is impressive. (Sophomore forward Zane) Campbell played huge for them tonight, playing 48 minutes. I thought all of their guys really played well tonight and forced us to step up."
On playing a Division II opponent:
"For me, I have too much respect for the game. I don't look at a school as a Division II opponent and assume because we are a Division I team that automatically we should win. They are a very well-coached team. They do a very good job. That is the game of basketball, and you have to respect that. I thought our guys came in and respected them. They need to understand that on any given night anything can happen. It was a great learning experience. I am glad we won, but there are certainly a lot of things in this game that we can take away as we prepare to begin our season."
#1 JaMychal Green, Forward
On if he expected to be playing double overtime tonight:
"No I definitely didn't expect to be playing double overtime. I kind of underestimated the team but they came out and played very aggressively. It was a great game for us because this season is going to be tough and we need a good game like that before the season starts to learn from our mistakes. So I think it was a great game for us."
On his block at the end of the game:
"We were just switching balls, and I didn't want to make a dumb foul so I just stayed on my feet."
On what he learned from this game:
"That we really have to play both halves and not get frustrated. We just have to fight through it and be patient like coach said."
On if he was concerned about losing to a Division II opponent:
"Yeah that wouldn't have looked too good for us. It's an in-state team and we definitely want to be the best team in the state. We wanted to win tonight but like I said it was a great team and they gave it all they had."
#12 Trevor Releford, Guard
On how important it is for him to take big shots:
"I think it's important for me to take shots like that to take pressure off JaMychal (Green). They won't be able to double down on him. He is great at one-on-one and can score. "
UAH Head Coach Lennie Acuff
"It was a great basketball game, I thought both teams played very hard. We're extremely thankful to Coach Grant for giving us the opportunity to play. We have a hard time getting these games and it really says a lot about him to bring us in here when we knew we have a good team, and I think he knew that."
On the double overtime loss:
"We were close, we would really have liked to kick the door down. We're really disappointed, but we'll be better for it and I think they'll be better for playing us.""
