Head Coach Anthony Grant
Opening comments:
“I think having the opportunity to play Talladega was good for our team. Obviously they’re an in-state opponent and I have a lot of respect for Coach Brown and the program he’s running. He actually coached JaMychal Green in high school so the relationship there is obviously a strong one and I thought his team came out and played with great purpose and really attacked us. There are certainly a lot of things we can take from this game and hopefully it will help us get better. That’s our focus this time of year and that’s what you want to do every year as a basketball team – take these opportunities and learn where you need to improve and where you need to help the team grow. There are some definite opportunities for that and that’s what we’re going to try to get out of this.”

On falling behind in the first half:
“I thought we had some lapses defensively. We had a young group in the game and we gave up some threes and we weren’t as focused as we needed to be from a defensive standpoint. I thought it was great for those guys because every day in practice we talk about how we need to have a sense of urgency defensively and how hard we have to play on a consistent basis. Talladega was ready to play and they came out and they made some shots and made very good ball movement and they put us in a little bit of a hole so I think it was a good test for our guys and somewhat of a wakeup call for our younger players to realize the importance of defending, especially the three-point line.”

On starting freshman Trevor Releford:
“I think he earned it. From when we first started in the summer to the preseason conditioning and the way he’s come out in practice.”

#1 JaMychal Green, F
Thoughts on the game and playing against his high school coach:
“It was fun to get out there and compete and see him (Talladega coach William Brown) again. I’ve been out of high school for three years now so it was great seeing him."

On Talladega’s play:
“They came out strong and hit a bunch of three’s, but in the second half we tightened up defensively and got some stops.”

On the team’s chemistry on the court:
“We started out slow the first half but in the second half we picked it up. We played together and did a lot of good things even though we messed up some.”

#12 Trevor Releford, G
Thoughts on his first collegiate competition:
“There were some first-game jitters at first. I got over it as the game went on.”

On how he got over those jitters:
“By helping my teammates and them having confidence in me and telling me to push the tempo.”

Head Coach William Brown
Opening comments:
“Initially, I thought the game was going in our direction. Towards the end of the game, they out-rebounded us, and we turned the ball over too many times. We did not get up enough good shot attempts. A lot of that was due to the Alabama defense. They defended the ball well, and rebounded the ball well. They pounded us inside. I think they are going to be one of the top teams in the SEC. Coach (Anthony Grant) is doing a great job with them.”

On playing against his former high school player JaMychal Green:
“Playing against JaMychal tonight was different. His body looks different. I can see a big change in his strength. I just want him to keep his head down, continue to work hard and do everything Coach Grant is asking him to do. He (JaMychal) is definitely a pro.”
