Alabama Head Coach Anthony Grant
On the game as a whole:
"You have to give Mississippi credit. They came out and really shot the ball well from the three-point line. They came into the game as a team that was making a lot of threes and our game plan was really to try to control dribble penetration and keep them out of the lane. Terrico White stepped up early and knocked down some big threes and Gaskins stepped up late. They ended up making twelve threes in the game and that was the difference tonight."
On his feelings about the first half:
"I thought we did a good job of attacking them offensively early. Defensively we did not do a great job on the perimeter, but I thought we had done well taking away other things. They were able to get stops when they needed to and they made some big shots to get the win in the end."
On Justin Knox:
"It was good to see him step up and make some shots he was available to make. They were in zone a lot and he did a good job of getting open in the middle of the zone and the guys did a good job of making the extra pass. Charvez Davis also stepped up and made some big shots for us, and he was aggressive. It was good to see those guys get aggressive and really create for themselves offensively."
Alabama Player Quotes
Junior Guard Charvez Davis
On why Mississippi was able to win late:
"They key to Ole Miss pulling the game out was us not being able to defend the three-point line. On the offensive board they were able to get key rebounds at key points in the game. That was a big factor in the game."
On similarities between the second half of the first Mississippi game and the one today:
"There were similarities but it all comes down to us getting stops at the end of the game. That's all we need to do. We have to come into practice next week and work on our defense and getting stops late in the game."
On his career-high 19 points:
"I was just shooting when I was open. I was trying to make plays for my team whenever I was available. Any time I have a shot I'm going to take it."
On team's focus heading into the final week of the season:
"My focus is to get better every day and I know my teammates want to get better every day. We are just going to keep fighting and we are going to find a way. We are going to keep grinding it out and everything will fall into place. It's very difficult with these close losses, but after today you just have to move on and get ready for practice. We just have to come back to work."
Senior Guard Mikhail Torrance
On losing the 11 point lead:
"Down the stretch, Mississippi was able to get some second shots that we as a team just can't give up. Terrico White was able to make a big three at the end. We just missed some assignments. At the same time, we were able to make a couple of big shots ourselves, but we have to make big stops down the stretch to win these games. We will get better in practice and work on getting those big stops. We have to step up our defense."
On regrouping after today's loss:
"We just have to regroup after this one. I know Coach Grant will have a great game plan for us. We just have to really focus this week in practice on getting better as a team, offensively and defensively. We just have to get better and regroup for our next game."
Mississippi Head Coach Andy Kennedy
On finding a way to win and playing big in the second half:
"There is a fine line, as you know, between winning and losing and I thought both teams were very competitive. Both teams started the game in a zone. The second half we got back to man-on-man and I'm guarding you and you are guarding me. We found ourselves down eleven with a little less than ten minutes to go. I thought after that our energy picked up. We got a couple of steals that allowed us to get some baskets."
On Trevor Gaskin stepping up in the second half:
"Yeah, I thought (Trevor Gaskin) was big. He always brings energy. Sometimes his emotions get the best of him. I was really pleased. They work hard and you like to see them rewarded. He has certainly put a lot of time and energy into being a good player."
On your Mississippi's effort:
"I thought the effort was good. There were some loose balls and we got our share. We came at them and drove. It really wasn't one guy as I glance at the stat sheet. We had four guys with six plus rebounds. It shows everybody was engaged in the game. We still had a free throw discrepancy but we made up for it with the ability to knock down three-point shots. It was a team effort tonight against a good Alabama team. Tonight you just had two teams fighting and it turned out a good night for us."
Mississippi Guard Trevor Gaskins
On bringing energy to the game in the second half:
"The coaches tell me to always be ready to make a play and do big things for the team, so today I listened and stepped up and made shots, steals and rebounds. I did everything I needed to do to just keep us in the game and keep the energy."
On shooting with confidence:
"Shooting is all about confidence. I just didn't hesitate today and listened to everything coach told me to do."
On finishing the season strong:
"Well LSU is next and we know they're a good team. They just got their first SEC win so they're going to be playing with a lot of confidence. This game has to be more important to us and hopefully we'll come out and do what we have to do to get the job done. "
