BATON ROUGE, La. - The Alabama men's basketball team (17-8, 9-2 SEC) defeated the LSU Tigers (10-16, 2-9 SEC), 67-57, Thursday evening at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.

"It was a tough road win, but they are all tough," UA head coach Anthony Grant said. "I thought LSU was very well prepared today. They came in and attacked some things that we had success with in the first game."

Junior forward JaMychal Green led the Tide on the night with 18 points and seven rebounds with freshman guard Trevor Releford adding 15 for Alabama in the winning effort.

"I'm proud of our guys," Grant added. "We came out in the second half and did what we needed to do to win the game. I'm proud of the way our guys came together and made the plays down the stretch to win."

Despite missing on its first nine opportunities from the field, the Crimson Tide battled back to take a 36-31 lead into the half and never surrendered the advantage, holding on for the 11-point victory over the Bayou Bengals.

LSU closed within a bucket with 9:21 remaining in the game and had a chance to pull closer after a low-post foul by Green, however a lane violation stripped the Tigers of their free throws. Tony Mitchell quickly drained a three-point basket for the Tide on the other side and LSU never came closer than four in the final eight minutes of play.

The victory gives the Tide a full four-game lead in the SEC Western Division and ties Alabama with Florida for the overall conference lead.

"The challenge now is to refocus and regroup for our game against Arkansas Saturday," Grant said.

Alabama will attempt to clinch at least a share of the Western Division title on Saturday when they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 6 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum. Fox Sports Net will televise the game throughout the Southeast.
