Alabama Head Coach Anthony Grant

Opening statement:
“It certainly was a tough loss against a very good conference opponent - a good game. Obviously give Florida credit; they made plays that they needed to make to be able to win the game.”

On the last three seconds of the game:
“I have to take the blame for that. We had two opportunities to get the ball in bounds. Florida did a good job of putting pressure on the in-bounds pass, and unfortunately we weren’t able to get it in bounds. That one’s on me. We weren’t able to come out and do what we needed to do to get the win.”

On the what may have changed the course of the game:
“I felt like the guys we had on the floor battled and we fought. They made a great play at the end to go up one there. What we wanted to do is go back at them in transition and not give their defense a chance to set. They did a good job of getting back and forcing a tough shot. We were fortunate to retain possession, but again we weren’t able to finish.”

On being down four points with a minute to play:
“I thought our guys fought hard and now we’ve got to regroup and get ready for the next one.”

On the rebounding differential in the second half:
“Well they’re a good basketball team. We didn’t do a good enough job blocking out and give them credit they made the plays they needed to make to win the game.”

On Erving Walker:
“He’s very good, obviously very quick. The way they space the floor makes it difficult to contain him. He’s a dual-threat in his ability to shoot the ball from deep and when he penetrates, not only does he finish, but he finds his teammates. That’s the mark of a great player, he can affect the game in a number of ways.”

Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan

On playing against Coach Grant and their relationship:
“I don’t like it at all. It’s just not fun. It’s hard to shake his hand before the game and obviously after the game it’s even harder. When you are with a guy and you share what we shared for 10 years, you see how hard everyone takes losses. Anthony (Grant) takes them really hard, and their kids played tough, and I thought Anthony (Grant) had a great game plan and his kids were really ready to play. It’s really a tough thing, but personally I’m happy for him that he is at a great place like this. I think Alabama is a good situation for him. I think he’s going to do a great job. I know we would never let anything competitively get in between our relationship. I was a bounce-on-the-rim away from being the guy walking down there and having him tell me that he felt bad for me, instead of it being the other way around. That’s the unfortunate side of being in such a close relationship with someone you are competing against.”

On winning a close game on the road:
“This time of year it seems like every game goes like that. Obviously Alabama’s last game was decided by just one point and our last one was close too, so I think the conference games just get really competitive this time of year. Erving Walker drove that lane and hits a tough shot, but if that ball rolls off the rim we could be sitting here talking about a tough loss. I think it’s important to keep that perspective and getting better at those other things that you can control. I thought Alabama did a great job when they got down by four or five with a couple of minutes left, they forced a couple of turnovers and took the lead but then Chandler (Parsons) got a huge offensive rebound and Erving (Walker ) hit a shot that rolled around the rim for what felt like hours. I still don’t know how that fell. It’s a tough situation with those out of bounds plays at the end of the game. Our guys did such great jobs underneath, especially Dan Werner who knocked that last pass away."

On what he told Irving Walker before the last play:
“I just told him to make a play. He knows that the defense dictates what you do in a certain situation. He penetrated and got one of their big men to come out and got the shot off. It was a great shot because even if he misses we had two big guys under the basket that had a chance to get an offensive rebound and put it back.”

Florida Player Quotes

Sophomore Guard Erving Walker

On what it means to bounce back on the road after the close loss to Tennessee:
“It is good for us. We have been in this position a couple of times, but tonight we showed grit and came up with two big defensive stops on the out of bounds play.”

On the Gators’ three-point shooting late in the game:
“It was huge for us tonight. I hit one or two, KB (freshman guard Kenny Boynton) hit a couple, so it was huge. Three point shots are more than two point shots, and Coach Donovan has been telling us to shoot and have trust that we will knock it down.”

On having junior forward Chandler Parsons bring the ball up the floor:
“It definitely takes the pressure off of me and makes it easier. Sometimes I have to bring it up the floor against two guys, so coach (Donovan) gave him the challenge of having to bring it up the floor against just one guy.”

Junior Forward Alex Tyus

On his performance tonight:
“I was just trying to be active. My teammates did a good job of finding me and making great passes. I am just really excited we got the win tonight.”

On winning on the road in the SEC:
“It’s a very big win. We have been in these close-game situations all year, and it is especially tough to get a win on the road in the SEC.”
