Baseball Signees Jackson Stephens and Mathew Goodson

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Today's featured baseball signees for the 2012 Alabama baseball recruiting class are right-handed pitcher Jackson Stephens and outfielder Mathew Goodson.

6-3, 185, RHP/Infielder
Oxford, Ala. (Oxford HS)

Assistant Coach Dax Norris on Jackson Stevens:
“Jackson is one that I think shored up this recruiting class that was already good. We’ve watched him forever, we like the way he competes on the mound, and he will have a chance to swing the bat and play in the infield. He comes at you with different arm angles, he’s a strike thrower and he will make an immediate impact with our program.”

Ranked as the No. 20 prospect in Alabama and No. 389 nationally by Perfect Game … was a Class 6A First Team All-State selection as a pitcher by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2011 … also named all-county in 2010 and 2011 … had a 7-1 record and a 1.02 ERA with 82 strikeouts for Oxford HS in 2011 … at the plate, he hit .380 with 12 home runs as a junior … was an Third Team Preseason Underclassmen All-American selection by Perfect Game USA in 2011 … is also the starting quarterback on the football team and plays on the basketball team … is a teammate at Oxford HS with fellow Alabama signee Mathew Goodson … high school head coach is Wes Brooks.

“Mathew is a power bat. He’s as strong of a high school player as I’ve ever seen and the ball comes off his bat a little different than everybody else. He’s a good runner, has a great arm and big time power which gives him a chance to be a really special player before it’s all said and done.”

Ranked as the No. 8 prospect in Alabama and No. 199 nationally by Perfect Game USA … named to the 2012 Alabama Top-100 players list …  was a Class 6A First Team All-State selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2011 … named the ASWA Class 6A Hitter of the Year in 2011 and garnered ASWA Super All-State honors following his junior season … helped Oxford HS to a 35-7 overall record in 2011 after hitting .480 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI as a junior …  was a 2011 Underclassman First Team Preseason HS All-American selection by Perfect Game USA … garnered Honorable Mention Underclassman All-American Honors by Perfect Game in 2010 … participated in the Perfect Game Invitational JR National Showcase is Tampa, Fla. … is a teammate at Oxford HS with fellow Alabama signee Jackson Stephens … high school head coach is Wes Brooks.
