Baseball Signees Mitch Greer and Georgia Salem

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Today's featured baseball signees for the 2012 Alabama baseball recruiting class are right-handed pitcher Mitch Greer and outfielder Georgia Salem.

Assistant Coach Dax Norris on Mitch Greer:
“Mitch Greer, has a great makeup. He’s a tough guy and a hard thrower. I'd like to see him catch, which he’ll do here, but he’s going to be a guy that will probably be on the mound out of the bullpen. He's another one who grew up and wanted to play at Alabama since he was born."

 Ranked as the No. 14 prospect in Alabama and No. 275 nationally by Perfect Game USA … named to the 2012 Alabama Top-100 players list … as a junior at Edgewood Academy, he posted a .495 batting average with nine home runs, 50 RBI and 10 doubles, helping his team post a 39-3 overall record in 2011 … a two-time all-state selection, he was a Alabama Independent School Association Class 2A First Team catcher by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2011 … invited to the MLB East Coach Showcase in Florida during the summer of 2011 … as a pitcher, he has a mid-90s fastball and posted a 7-2 record with a 2.09 ERA as a junior … 2011 Perfect Game USA Third Team Preseason HS Underclassmen All-American …  helped Edgewood Academy to three consecutive state titles … high school head coach is Bobby Carr.

“Georgie is a real athletic outfielder. He can really run, has a great arm. and a player we can see hitting in the top end of the lineup. He covers a lot of ground in the outfield and he has a lot of tools, as far as speed and athleticism.”

Ranked as the No. 6 prospect in Alabama and no. 166 nationally by Perfect Game USA … named to the 2012 Alabama Top-100 players list … participated in a number of Perfect Game USA showcases during the summer of 2011 … won the South Birmingham Over the Mountain Athlete of the Year award in 2011 … was a Class 6A Honorable Mention All-State selection as an outfielder by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2011 … finished his junior season with a .422 batting average with seven home runs and 27 RBI … also had 11 doubles, scored 37 runs and stole 11 bases … named the Birmingham News South Player of the Year and Hitter of the Year in 2011 … was a 2011 First Team All-Hoover/South Baseball Team selection by the Birmingham News … named to the Birmingham All-Metro Team for the second straight year in 2011 … was a 2011 Perfect Game USA Third Team Preseason HS Underclassmen All-American honoree and a Perfect Game USA High Honorable Mention Preseason HS Underclassmen All-American selection in 2010 … also a standout on the football field as a running back for Vestavia Hills HS … named the Over the Mountain Touchdown Club’s 2011 Birmingham Football Player of the Year … his high school baseball head coach is Dal Davis.
