BOSTON - Alabama left-handed pitcher Adam Morgan will represent the Harwich Mariners in the 48th annual Cape Cod League All-Star Game tonight at Fenway Park in Boston. In four starts this summer, Morgan is 1-0 with a 1.44 ERA. He has worked 25 innings and allowed four runs on 18 hits with 21 strikeouts and five walks. He has held Cape Cod League opponents to a .205 batting average.
The 2010 Cape Cod League All-Star Game will be televised live by CBS College Sports with veteran play-by-play announcer Eric Frede and former Boston Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni. CBS College Sports Network can be seen on DirecTV (Channel 613) or DISH Network (Channel 152).
Morgan shared some of his thoughts with RollTide.com has he prepares for tonight’s all-star game in Boston.
On how you have performed this summer and making the Cape Cod League All-Star team:
“I feel like I have pitched pretty well. I’m trying to keep the ball down. I came up here wanting to get some good, solid starts in this summer and found out if you keep the ball down and mix in a changeup, with these wooden bats most of the time they will either roll it over or get themselves out. I feel like I’ve done pretty well up here in the Cape.”
On your reaction to making the Cape Cod League All-Star Team and the chance to pitch in Fenway Park:
“I was excited. I didn’t think I would make it. There are a lot of really good players up here. Their ERA and wins and losses were good. You have to have the stats up here when it comes to the all-star game. I thought my numbers were good, but some guys up here have an ERA less than one or close to zero. I am really excited for the chance to play at Fenway Park.”
On whether he has played in a Major League Stadium before:
“This will be a first for me. I’ve played in some minor league stadiums, but this will be the first time I’ve played a game in a major league stadium.”
On whether this will be his first trip to Fenway Park:
“We went earlier this summer as all the teams had a workout this summer. I’ve been there and seen the “Green Monster” and I am excited to be able to play there, actually. We saw the Red Sox play a game here a few weeks ago and saw them play the (Tampa Bay) Rays and I got a chance to see (former Alabama pitcher) Lance (Cormier) and talk to him for a few minutes before the game.”
On how this summer will help him at Alabama in 2011:
“I’ve spent a lot of time working on the changeup and trying to throw the fastball inside. It should give me some confidence going into the season. What I wanted out of this summer was to get in some solid starts and things have worked out well for me.”
On what his reaction will be when you step on the field at Fenway Park:
“I will try and take it all in. I’m sure the emotions and adrenaline will be rushing when I arrive, but this is an awesome opportunity. I am definitely looking to take everything in and just enjoy the day.”
