Alabama Baseball Summer Update

TUSACLOOSA, Ala. – Six players from the current Alabama baseball roster continue to play their respective summer league seasons. Those players include, Ben Moore and Kenny Roberts, who are competing in the Northwoods League in Minnesota, Austen Smith, who is playing in the Cape Cod League, Cary Baxter, who is playing in the Florida League, and redshirts Ryan Blanchard and Riley Colburn, who are playing in the Great Lakes League and Texas League, respectively.
Playing with the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League, Ben Moore has a .316 batting average in 43 games. Moore, who is playing catcher and outfield for the Beetles, is second in the league with 10 home runs, while leading the 16-team league with 51 RBI. Additionally, Moore has 41 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples and 13 stolen bases.
Kenny Roberts is having a solid summer for the Willmar Stingers, as he leads the Northwoods League with 11 home runs in 37 games. Roberts is batting .256 for the season, has 23 runs scored, 34 RBI, six doubles, two triples and five stolen bases.
Cary Baxter was recently named to the Florida League All-Star game after collecting a 2-1 record with a 2.83 ERA for the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs. Baxter has made six appearances on the mound, all as a starter, recording 42 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched. In his most recent outing, Baxter struck out 12 batters in six innings.
The Florida League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m., from Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Fla. Baxter will be a member of the South squad for the exhibition game.
Alabama first baseman Austen Smith has a .145 average with two home runs and seven RBI in the wood bat Cape Cod League. Smith has played in 20 of 26 games for the Harwich Mariners.
Ryan Blanchard, who redshirted the 2012 Crimson Tide season, is hitting .263 for the Grand Lake Mariners of the Great Lakes League. Blanchard has four home runs with 15 RBI and 13 runs scored in 27 games. Additionally, he has 18 walks and nine stolen bases.
Riley Colburn, who also redshirted the 2012 season for the Tide, has seen action in 19 games for the Alexandria Aces of the Texas League. Colburn has a .270 average in 37 at-bats, with six RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases.
