TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama had three players from its 2012 squad selected in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Those three players included Taylor Dugas, Ian Gardeck and Jared Reaves. Additionally, the Crimson Tide had four players from its incoming class selected during the MLB Draft.

Taylor Dugas was the first player from Alabama chosen, when the New York Yankees called his name in the eighth round. Dugas, the 277th selection overall, was first team All-American in 2010, a Gold Glove outfielder in 2011, and garnered his second first team All-SEC selection in 2012.

During his four years at UA, Dugas etched his name in the record books, finishing in the top-10 in 14 different offensive categories. He holds the school records for hits (334), singles (235), doubles (67) and triples (18). A career .360 hitter, Dugas is second all-time at Alabama with 151 walks and 927 at-bats, is third with 232 runs scored and is fourth was a .466 on-base percentage.

With the 508th overall selection, junior right-handed relief pitcher Ian Gardeck was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 16th round. In his first season at Alabama, Gardeck posted a 1-2 record with a 5.84 ERA and one save in 2012. Gardeck appeared in 13 games and recorded 16 strikeouts in 12.1 innings out of the bullpen. During SEC play, Gardeck made four appearances with 2.1 innings pitched for a 0-1 record.

Jared Reaves became the third player from the 2012 roster drafted, when the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 25th round with the 784th pick overall. Reaves, who started every game at shortstop for Alabama over the past two seasons, posted a .329 batting average with 31 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and a team-best 81 RBI in 118 career games.

Alabama also had four signees selected in the 2012 MLB Draft. Wade Wass, a junior college transfer from Meridian Community College, was selected 402nd overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round. Right-handed pitcher Jackson Stephens from Oxford High School was an 18th round selection by the Cincinnati Reds. Ray Castillo, a right-handed pitcher Russell County High School, was selected 833rd overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 27th round. Spain Park High School shortstop Mikey White was taken 1040th overall by the New York Mets in the 34th round.

With this season's three players from the current roster drafted, Alabama has had at least one player selected in the MLB Draft for the past 34 years. The Crimson Tide has had at least one player drafted every year since 1979.
