TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama sophomore shortstop Mikey White (Birmingham, Ala.) has been named to the 2014 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame on Friday morning.
The Brooks Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.
White, who was named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List, has started all 41 games at shortstop for the Tide in 2014. He is hitting .277, with six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 20 RBI and 30 runs and leads the team with 11 HBP and 18 walks for a .385 on-base percentage.
In addition to starting every game at shortstop, White has also been hitting in the leadoff spot in the Tide batting order for the last eight games. Defensively, White has also been solid for the Tide, posting a .957 fielding percentage, committing eight errors in 186 chances and he’s been part of 24 of 36 double plays turned by Alabama this season.
In his two years with the Tide, White has a .283 batting average, with four home runs, 17 doubles, a pair of triples, 50 RBI and 64 runs scored, while posting a .369 slugging percentage and a .374 on-base percentage. Defensively, he has a career fielding percentage of .960, making just 20 errors in 104 games and 502 chances.
