TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama closer Thomas Burrows is one of 47 pitchers named to the 2014 Pitcher of the Year Watch List, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Hall of Fame on Friday morning. Burrows is one of nine pitchers from the Southeastern Conference selected to the list.
The Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.
This season, Burrows is a two-time winner of the SEC Freshman of the Week award and earlier this week he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Mid-Season Stopper of the Year Watch List.
The true freshman from Florence, Ala., has been a force for the Tide at the back end of games this season. In 18 appearances, he has a 4-1 record and is 8-for-8 in save opportunities. His eight saves are tied for the fourth most in the SEC and ranks 24th in the country. He has a 0.73 ERA (2 runs) with 26 strikeouts in 24.2 innings and is holding opponents to a .105 batting average.
