TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama left fielder Hunter Webb was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Webb started all four games for the Crimson Tide last week, posting a .417 average for the week and is now hitting .313 for the season.
In a week that included five hits in 12 at-bats, Webb had at least one hit in all four games, with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Webb drove in the game-winning run with a one-out double in the ninth inning of the series finale at Texas A&M, lifting the Tide to their first road series win of the season.
Hitting ninth in the order, Webb hit .444 (4-for-9) with two RBI and three runs scored in the Texas A&M series. He also had four sacrifice bunts that produced three runs for the Tide, including two against UL-Monroe and the eventual game-winning run in game one at Texas A&M. For the season, Webb is hitting .313, which ranks second on the team.
Kentucky's A.J. Reed was named the SEC Player of the Week, while Arkansas' Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver and LSU's Aaron Nola shared conference pitcher of the week honors.
Webb and the Tide will return to the diamond on Tuesday night when they host the UAB Blazers with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
