COLUMBIA, S.C. – After severe weather in Columbia delayed the conclusion of game one of the series to Friday, No 4. South Carolina got an eighth inning, opposite field home run from Adam Matthews for a 1-0 victory over Alabama. The lead-off home run by Matthews was the only hit of the game for the Gamecocks.

After game one was suspended due to severe weather on Friday, play resumed at 5 p.m. ET with the Crimson Tide (17-26, 6-13 SEC) batting with no outs in the top of the eighth and the score tied at 0-0. Tyler Webb (4-0) entered for the Gamecocks (31-11, 12-7 SEC) and retired the only three batters he faced in the eighth inning to get the win.

After Alabama starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull had thrown a career-high seven innings without allowing a hit on Thursday, the Tide went to left-hander Jon Keller (1-3) for the conclusion of the game. Matthews hit the first pitch Keller threw over the fence in right field for the only run of the game.

Following the one-run South Carolina eighth, closer Matt Price entered for the ninth and retired all three batters he faced for his fifth save of the season.

Alabama collected four hits, with two coming from Brett Booth and one from Hunter Gregory and Ben Moore.

Turnbull had five strikeouts, while allowing four walks and hit one batter. South Carolina starting pitcher Michael Roth did not factor into the decision after throwing 7.0 innings, allowing four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Alabama and South Carolina will play game two of the series tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. CT from Carolina Stadium. The Tide will throw freshman left hander Taylor Guilbeau (3-2, 4.89) and SC will counter with a freshman lefty, as well, in Jordan Montgomery (4-0, 2.59).
