Head Coach Mitch Gaspard
“We just couldn’t find any offense all day long. We had a few opportunities and just didn’t have enough quality at-bats. We didn’t really put any pressure on them the entire day, and of course their pitching did a nice job. I felt that the last three games we have been really good offensively, and then today was a rough day to play two games. We had a poor offensive approach today, and unfortunately we played two games and were never really able to get out of it. When you score one run in two games, it’s tough to win. We’ll try to regroup, get in to next week, and get some things squared up offensively. We’ll go with it from there.”
On Pilkington’s performance:
“Pilk gave us four good innings, and just one run. I thought all three guys who went out there did a nice job. I’m the most disappointed that we had a team, at home, that we had a chance to do some damage against, and we didn’t take advantage of it. It was just a disappointing weekend, and certainly a disappointing day. All we can do is regroup and move on to the next day."
On the effect of the seven-inning games:
“You never know. I thought in the first game, two more innings would have had more of an effect because we were starting to get him on the ropes. We were getting a couple more opportunities in the late going. Both sides were playing seven-inning games though, and clearly the opportunity is there for both of us and we just didn’t do our part today."
#5 Brett Booth, 3B
On the offense:
“We just couldn’t get anything going all day.We had two really good starts today, and we never really could get past go.”
On the team's frustrations with the offense:
“It’s frustrating to not be able to get anything going, especially when we have two good starts like we got today. We have a few days off, and we have got to get back to work, and be ready to go on Tuesday.”
#11 Trey Pilkington, RHP
On the loss:
“It was a tough loss today. They were throwing really well. They had some good pitches today, and I had a tough time getting going and that just made it difficult.”
On his performance:
“I didn’t have my best stuff today, but I had a great defense making plays behind me. It’s always good knowing that they are back there.”
On preparing for seven-inning games:
“It’s a little different because you don’t have those two extra innings to get those extra at-bats, and we just went out there and were cold today.”
* In game one of the doubleheader, both Alabama starting pitcher Adam Morgan (4-3, 2-2 SEC) and Tennessee starter Steven Gruver (4-4, 1-4 SEC) threw complete games for their respective teams. It was Morgan’s first complete game of the season and the fourth of his Crimson Tide career.
* The series loss was the first home series loss for Alabama this season. The last series the Crimson Tide lost at The Joe was against the third-ranked Florida Gators, who took two out of three from the Tide, May 7-9 of last season.
