BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman left fielder Taylor Dugas' two-run double highlighted a five-run sixth inning as Alabama defeated UAB 10-6 in the completion of  a suspended game Monday afternoon at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham.

The Crimson Tide and Blazers originally met on Wednesday, March 25 at the Hoover Met and the game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning with the score tied at 2-2.

Before the game was suspended three weeks ago, Alabama had taken 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kent Matthes led off with a single and later scored on Clay Jones ground out.

UAB (18-16) tallied a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Luke Stewart doubled and scored when Jamal Austin reached on a two-out error by Josh Rutledge.  Jonathan Merritt followed with an RBI single to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead.

Alabama (23-12) scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to chase starter Beau Pender before the game was suspended.  Kent Matthes reached on an error by UAB catcher Digger Towe and stole second base.  After  a strikeout, Clay Jones drew a walk and was pinch run for by Cal Tinsley.  

Blake Huddleston replaced Pender and walked Vin DiFazio to load the bases and then walked Wes Henderson to force in the tying run and then umpire Mo Hodges stopped the game and it was resumed on April14.

When the game was resumed, pinch-hitter Tyler Odle was hit by a pitch to force home Tinsley to give UA a 3-2 lead.  Dugas, who led the Tide with two hits, followed with a two-run double down the right field line to score pinch-runner Kyle Moore and Henderson to make it 5-2.  Rutledge drove in the final run of the inning with a ground out to third to make it 6-2.

Senior right-hander Casey Kebodeuax (3-0) worked the first five innings on March 25 for the win.  He allowed two unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Pender (3-2) was the losing pitcher after he allowed three runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings.  He struck out six and walked four.

UAB scored a run off Nathan Kilcrease in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the UA lead to 6-3. Austin stroked a one-out single to left, moved to second on a two-out walk to Nick Crawford and scored on Brint Hardy's two-out base hit to right field.

Alabama scored three more runs the top of the eighth inning to take a 9-3 lead.  Henderson and Odle recorded back-to-back one-out singles and Henderson later scored on a balk by Huddleston to give the Tide a 7-3 lead.  Rutledge followed with a two-out double to right-center to score Odle and Ross Wilson's two-out single to right chased Rutledge home for the six-run lead.

UAB got the three runs back in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 9-6.  Towe and Stewart opened the inning with back-to-back singles and after a balk, Kilcrease walked Austin Taylor to load the bases with no outs.  Andrew Manning then rapped into a double play that scored pinch-runner Allen Aubin to  make the score 9-4.  Austin followed with a two-out triple that scored Stewart to make it 9-4. 

Austin Graham replaced Kilcrease on the mound and allowed a two-out RBI single Merritt, before Crawford bounced out to second base to end the inning.

Alabama added an insurance run in the ninth when Kyle Moore singled and moved around to score on three wild pitches by two different UAB pitchers.

Alabama will host Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:35 p.m.(CDT)  at Sewell-Thomas Stadium and will be back in Birmingham to face Samford on Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. (CDT).
