Head Coach Mitch Gaspard Opening statement: "We got a great start from Adam Morgan and really for the first time, certainly on the road, we got production throughout the lineup. This game shows what can happen when we get production from the bottom of the order. But more importantly, we put pressure on them throughout the game, even when we didn't score. Miller had a really big day and came up with some clutch hits for us. After they made their run in the sixth inning, I thought the bullpen did a nice job, and Smart did a great job at the end and shut it down with runners on second and third and nobody out."
On Miller's hit in the fourth: "I thought that was the key to the game. Obviously we needed for someone other than the top three guys to deliver a big hit. I think when Andrew did that a ton of pressure was released throughout the dugout. You can see from that spot on our at-bats got better and we started putting better swings on pitches. A lot of times that's what it takes to get over the hump and start moving in the right direction. More importantly, to win the game in the fashion we had to win it we competed really hard today and showed something after a poor performance last night. We responded today and came back and competed like crazy and found a way to get a win on the road."
On adding the insurance run in the ninth: "Every run is so critical in the SEC when it comes down to the end of a game. It's a big difference between one run and two runs. The way they have to play the ninth, going for two runs instead of one run, they may have safety squeezed the run in and moved the other guy to third. To add the insurance run is always big."
On Smart's performance in the ninth: "The one thing about Jonathan is he's got ice water in him and his nerves are really good. He's very solid and has a great demeanor on the mound. The situation was right as they had a couple left-handers in the bottom of the lineup. The one thing he's going to do is throw strikes, and throw a good breaking ball and a changeup. The matchups were really good and he was very confident. He attacked them and threw really good pitches."
