HEAD COACH Mitch Gaspard
“I felt like tonight we played really hard and with a lot of energy. However, in the end we had too many mistakes and gave up some freebees by walking a few guys and gave up too many runs in the game, by throwing a few balls away allowing them to stretch their lead. Our guys did a good job of coming back in the end and making the game competitive and giving us a chance, but overall we played extremely hard and just made too many mistakes. A big part of their offense are walks and getting lead offs on so they can get the run game going.”
Thoughts on the defensive breakdowns in the 6th inning
“It was just sloppy. I didn’t’ think they were major breakdowns, we were just sloppy with the baseball. You got to handle the baseball and not be sloppy, particularly in a SEC game; you’re going get burned like we did tonight.”
Thoughts on the good offensive innings of the 5th and the 8th
“I thought we just stayed aggressive and that is the one thing that I think is encouraging. Our offense over the last two days has been really good, with 11 hits last night and 12 tonight. It was a really good sign to come back and run up the three spot after they get two in the eighth. This team fights and plays with a lot of energy and I thought that they stayed aggressive all night and really played all the way down to the last pitch. Our thing right now is to just play clean and for the most part when you’re not as clean like tonight and get a little sloppy then it provides opportunities for your opponent.”

On tonight’s game
“It is always tough to lose in the SEC. Our team played together and we played hard. I feel like if we play like this the rest of the year, we will be fine, but it is always tough to lose a game in the SEC.”
On getting behind and feeling ever out of the game:
“Our team never thinks we are out of a game. We fight hard and that’s what coach preaches every day; don’t stop fighting because it’s a nine-inning game so we should finish out our nine innings the best that we can and as hard as we can and we will be fine.”
On the defensive mistakes in the game
“We can’t make mental mistakes like we did tonight. We have to play a game with no errors and we have to play a cleaner game. I feel like we played hard and either way, coach says to go hard every day and if you make a mistake to make it but go hard. If we just clean up the little things then we will be alright.”
