A hard-throwing right hander, Jason Townsend joins the Crimson Tide this season and hopes to earn a spot in the starting rotation ... he brings a wealth of experience from Chipola Junior College, where he posted an 11-5 (.688) record and a 4.47 ERA during the previous two seasons ... he made 28 career appearances, including 20 starts ... he worked 104 2/3 innings and allowed 62 runs (52 ER) and 98 hits, with 43 walks and 96 strikeouts ... also added two complete games ... helped Chipola to 71 wins during his two-year career and the school's second straight appearance in the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.

SOPHOMORE (2009 - Chipola JC):
A two-year starter at Chipola Junior College for Coach Jeff Johnson ... posted 4-2 record and 4.32 ERA in his 11 appearances on the mound ... also recorded 10 starts ... worked 41 2/3 innings and allowed 23 runs (20 ER) and 36 hits with 20 walks and 27 strikeouts ...held opponents to a .225 batting average ... led Chipola to a 27-18-1 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Florida Community College Athletic Association/Region III standings with an 11-9 conference mark.

FRESHMAN (2008 - Chipola JC):
As a rookie, Townsend posted a 7-3 (.700) record and 4.57 ERA in 17 appearances on the mound ... he also recorded 10 starts ... added two complete games ... worked 63 innings and allowed 39 runs (32 ER) and 62 hits with 23 walks and 59 strikeouts ... help opponents to a .255 batting average ... season-high nine strikeouts against Pensacola Junior College on May 12 ... was instrumental in Chipola's second straight appearance in the NJCAA World Series ... led Chipola to a 44-12-1 record and the FCCAA/Region III title for the second year in a row with a 14-6 conference slate.

HIGH SCHOOL:
A 2007 graduate of Sherwood Christian Academy in Albany, Ga., where he was the 2007 Region III Player of the Year ... also a two-time All-State and three-time All-Region selection.
