A talented right-hander, Nelson was voted one of the top pitching prospects in the Texas Collegiate League this summer by Perfect Game Crosschecker and Baseball America ... had an excellent summer with the McKinney (Texas) Marshals, where he played for former Tide assistant coach Jim Gatewood ... named the TCL Freshman of the Year after posting a 3-2 record and 2.55 ERA this summer ... led the league with 66 strikeout ... appeared in 11 games and made nine starts ... worked 49 1/3 innings and allowed 14 earned runs and 34 hits with 23 walks and 66 strikeouts ... held opponents to .188 batting average ... fourth in the TCL in innings pitched ... named to 2008 TCL All-Star Game ... was drafted in 39th round by Cincinnati Reds in 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.

CUBA FRIENDSHIP TOURNAMENT:
