State (2008-09). In his role with the Tide, Barbier is the team's third base coach, coordinates the running game, and oversees Alabama Baseball Camps. He also provides assistance in the areas of hitting, defense, and pitching for the program. "Bobby is one of the brightest young coaches out there," said head baseball coach Mitch Gaspard. "He played for me at Northwestern State, and truly understands how our program works. He did a great job as our third base coach a year ago, and does a number of other things to help the program improve. He will be a tremendous baseball coach in the future, and we are fortunate to have him with us." Barbier wrapped up a remarkable four-year playing career in 2006 at Northwestern State, where he earned two All-Southland Conference honors and an Academic All-American award under then-head coach Mitch Gaspard. He completed his career being listed in the school's top 10 in eight offensive categories. In 2004, he became just the eighth student-athlete in NSU history to be named an Academic All-American. He hit .293 that season with a team-high nine home runs. The 27-year old Barbier played high school ball at Archbishop Shaw in New Orleans where he earned all-state, all-district and all-metro honors. He was also a part of two American Legion state championship teams. Barbier earned his bachelor of science degree from Northwestern State in health and human performance in December of 2006. He is married to Kody (Sprout) Barbier. |
